On the 16th February I received a message that the headmaster Mr Stuart Rees needed to have a word with me. So i went along to his office not knowing what was wrong.
He gave me the most amazing news, unknowing to me, he had sent my poetry book and information about my charity and the work that I do to enter me into the Common Purpose Spotlight Awards.
He was pleased to tell me that I had reached the finals that would be held at the Deutsche Bank in london on The 15th May 2007.
He gave me the official letter explaining what would be happening next and what I needed to do.
I just couldn’t believe it at all and couldn’t wait to get home and tell my mam my fantastic news.
I had to wait then for the organisers to come out to meet me to collect more information about me and my charity, so they could make a short video clip for the judges to study over the next 4 months to decide on who the winners would be.
I didn’t expect or build my hopes up on being a winner ,I was just so honoured to be a finalist and for the acknowledgement of my work and charitys was enough for me, also the opportunity of visiting London was going to be a fantastic experience for me. As the only place I had ever been was Blackpool with my late Grandparents.
My greatest wish that I had about my visit to London would be to go visit the houses of parliament, to which I was unable to do as we arrived late the evening before the awards and the next morning there wasn’t enough time as I had to be at the Deutsche bank at 12am in time to start my media training before the awards ceremony at 4pm.
I was there all day so there was no time to go sight seeing.
I met so many friendly people at the awards and the day went very quickly. I was so pleased that Chris McCormack was allowed to attend the awards with me and share my great experience of been a winner.
It was a truly amazing feeling as I had not gone there with even a thought or possibility that I would win so it came as quite a shock , but I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it and I would just like to thank everybody for supporting me and you all have given me a friendship that I truly appreciate. You all deserve the recognition for this as without you all I would not be where I am today .
Many Thanks to you All, Take Care & Keep Smiling

This picture of a very tall building we emailed to my mam to let her think that was where i was to be for the awards on the 5th floor from the top we were only joking !! she had such a panic on when she saw it as she doesnt like big buildings and knew i didnt like heights, we did reasure her that it was a joke and the building i was in was not that big she did laugh about it with us all .
All these pictures are what Mr Chris McCormack and Amanda took as they were not allowed to stay with me whilst i was doing the media training, so they went sightseeing close by untill it was time for the ceremony
